Wishing to prepare their building for the arrival of electric vehicles, the President of the Board of Directors of the six-unit condo de l’Épée surveyed owners in May 2019 to evaluate interest in EV charging installations. Noting a positive response, the President used Murbly’s tools to find a charging solution.
Charging Solution
The electrical room of the condo complex is located in the basement of the building, which is close to the interior and exterior parking spaces. This meant that Level 2 chargers would be connected to electric vehicle energy management systems (EVEMS) for power.
Installation Approach
During the consultation, five tenants out of the six showed interest in the installation of an EV charger. The Individual Approach was then selected and an installation group has been organized.
Set Up
Since he already knew how many tenants were interested, the president of the board of directors reached out to an electrical contractor in June in order to obtain a quote. Wanting to offer more flexibility, the said contractor proposed three options to the tenants:
Option 1
- Installation of an EVEMS
- Installation of the cabling and piping
- Installation of a FLO G5 EV charger
Option 2
- Installation of a EVEMS
- Installation of the cabling and piping
- Installation of a 240V box (for a further installation of an EV charger)
Option 3
- Installation of the box of the EVEMS (for a further installation of the electrical component)
- Installation of the cabling and piping
- Installation of a 240V box (for a further installation of an EV charger)
Since one of the options offered by the contractor was less costly than the others, a fifth tenant joined the installation group.
Installation
Two tenants chose the first option, two chose the second and one chose the third. Out of six tenants, five now have electric vehicle charging installed in their parking space. The project was completed in October.
