Motivated by preserving building values, an owner in the 53-unit building took it upon themselves to establish an affordable and technically viable electric vehicle charging solution.

In the summer of 2019, a committee a special EV charging committee was formed who reached out to the Murbly team then followed these steps on how to add EV charging.

They found that dividing how much it cost in a group was better than individual installations an the following February eight EV chargers were installed.

Charging Solution

As the electrical room was in the parking garage and in close proximity, the committee chose to do installations of  the owners’ choice brand charger with an EV energy management system in the electrical room.

Installation Approach

The committee surveyed owners in September, and found that the majority were open to the idea of installing base infrastructure for the electric vehicle charging. This would ensure harmonious future installations. With these survey results, the committee opted for a Partial Global Approach and hired a consultant to develop a charging strategy.

Set Up

With a strategy in hand, the committee organized a general assembly to establish a charging policy and vote on budget for the base infrastructure installation in the parkade. The committee shared developments with tenants throughout the project so they would be aware of the progress. The assembly took place in November and the policy was accepted with 81% of votes.

Installation

The next step was to put together an installation group where eight tenants joined. Overall basic infrastructure was installed for the 53-unit building, along with eight FLO G5 chargers. The project was completed in February.

From now on, owners wishing to install a charger just have to follow their buildings charging policy details.

Project Details

Work in the Electrical Room

A wall was constructed in the electrical room for the installation and mounting of eight electric vehicle energy management systems. This wall will also serve as a space for future EV charging infrastructure installations.
