Following the purchase of a new EV in November of 2019, a Vancouver owner learned how to successfully get Strata approval for an EV charging installation.
The most accessible charging solution was using Electric Vehicle Energy Management Systems (EVEMS), as the owners had indoor parking space and the electrical room is at the same level. This way electricity consumed by charging an EV is automatically billed to the correct service and the owners are left open to EV charger of their choice.
With Murbly’s guidance, and taking into consideration that only one tenant was interested in such an installation, the board opted for the Individual Approach. The tenant was then authorized to proceed. This Vancouver strata could use this framework for future EV charging requests.
A few months later once the Strata understood how an individual approach and EVEMS would be the best fit for their complex the charger was installed.
Happy with the outcome of the project and facing growing interest from other owners, the board added a Charging Policy to standardize future installations.
