In July 2019, a prospective tenant asked the condo board for the Kent Complex about electric vehicle charging. The Board began their research and discovered some interest amongst the tenants which led to an EV Ready Plan.

Charging Solution

As the electrical room is close to the interior parking spaces, an electric vehicle energy management system was selected as the power source (the charging solution).

Installation Approach

In order to evaluate the tenants’ interest for the installation of EV chargers, the board sent a survey out in September 2019. Noting a positive feedback, the board reached out to a couple electrical contractors before making their selection.

Because part of the wiring needed to go along the ceiling of various storage spaces, the contractor suggested cable tray installations. With this, they wouldn’t need to open every storage space to install the wiring.

The Partial Global approach was selected for the installation of the cable trays. An installation group was setup as nine tenants were interested in a Level 2 charger.

Set Up

In order to standardize all installations a Charging Policy was established.

Installation

Everything was in place for early 2020, but the COVID-19 caused project. During the waiting period another tenant joined the installation group. When activities could safely resume, the electrical contractor proceeded to the installation of 10 EV chargers, on the 1st of June 2020.

Moving forward, tenants wishing to add Level 2 charging infrastructure can follow the details in the Charging Policy established by their complex.
