Some owners opted for an electric as their next vehicle and were then in need of charging equipment at their home. The Condo Board, who was already keen on the idea of having shared EVSEs installed, reached out to murbly.com (then RVE) in 2017 in order to find a reasonable, fair, and easily achievable charging solution.
Charging Solutions
The Block 6 is part of the first condo phases, which regroups a total of eight buildings. Some of the tenants own an interior parking space, but those spaces are limited. The rest of the tenants use the three-storey exterior parking lot which is located in between the buildings. As the electricity meter accessibility was not equal, two solutions had to be adopted.
Accessibles Meters

The parking spaces located inside had access to the electrical meters as the electrical room is located on the same floor. For these EV chargers the Electric Vehicle Energy Management System was then chosen as the power source and charging solution.
Inaccessible Meters

Because of the configuration for the exterior parking spaces, it was impossible on a short term basis to consider a solution allowing all tenants who own an exterior parking space to have an EVSE installed without choosing the Global Approach. In order for the exterior parking spaces to have access to charging equipment, the board chose to have a shared EVSE installed. An Energy Capacity Study was carried out and determined that the appropriate solution in a context such as this is the addition of a dedicated meter to power the shared two-pistol EVSE.
Installation Approach
Indoor Parking Spaces
Since only a few tenants wished to have an EV charger and because the technical context allowed, the Individual Approach was selected for the interior parking spaces. The tenants who have had a private EVSE installed each paid for their installation.
Exterior Parking Spaces
As for the shared EVSE for the exterior parking spaces, the Partial Global Approach was selected and allowed for a dual-headed EVSE to be installed and used equally between the users of the exterior parking spaces, who also split the related installation costs.
Set Up
The owners who wanted to have a private EVSE reached out to the vertical board of the complex who then supported and guided them in the process. That being said, each tenant was responsible for overseeing the completion of their own project.
The horizontal board, however, led the operation in the installation of the outdoor shared EVSE. In 2017, a survey was conducted among the tenants in order to assess their interest and most of them were interested in the installation of EV charging equipment.
They then voted in an extraordinary general meeting – a double majority vote was necessary for the project to move forward.
Installation
The shared ChargePoint charger installation was completed in the winter of 2019 and it was functional in December. All private EVSEs were installed by the same electrical contractor. If other tenants express an interest in obtaining an EVSE in their parking space, they will only have to follow in the footsteps of those with one already installed, the charging solution and proceedings being approved by the board.
