In our recent article titled Subsidy for multifamily EV charging in Quebec: How to Take Advantage of the Écorecharge Program, we analyzed in detail the major changes to this subsidy program, which replaces the multi-unit housing section of Roulez vert.
As a reminder, government financial assistance is no longer focused solely on the purchase of individual charging stations, but rather on a much more comprehensive approach: the overall preparation of buildings’ electrical infrastructure. Effective from March 17, 2026, to March 31, 2028 (with a transition period until July 17, 2026, allowing projects already underway to benefit from the previous program), Écorecharge encourages condominiums and rental buildings to plan for the future in a fair and scalable way—an approach we have advocated for from the very beginning.
To properly structure your project, however, it is essential to master the program’s new technical vocabulary. Here are the key concepts introduced by Écorecharge, illustrated with diagrams to help you visualize each configuration in concrete terms.
1. EV Capable
This step covers the basics of the infrastructure. It includes the installation of the empty conduit (pipe), the circuit breaker compartment, and the junction box, which will make it easy to install the wiring and charging station in the future. The basic infrastructure (the empty enclosure) for the energy management system (the charge controller) is installed.

2. EV Ready
Here, the electrical infrastructure is fully wired. The conduits (pipes), circuit breaker, junction box, and wiring are all in place. Everything is ready for a charging station to be connected. The complete charging controller infrastructure is installed.

3. EV Installed
This is the complete and fully operational system. The electrical infrastructure has been deployed and the charging station has been installed, allowing for immediate charging of an electric vehicle.
